There are mentions of Gwaithir in A Book on Indrin's Beacon, it "feels like" this could be the entrance..

You now stand at the edge of the open desert. From here you can see far to the east, across the Sword Sea. To your north "The Great Volcano" reaches far up into the sky, looming dark and ominous almost as if it were forbidden ground. Looking around here, you realize that you are also at the top of a cliff face, and far below you the surf of the Sword Sea crashes in relentlessly against the rock strewn beach. All around you are scattered the building stones of a tower. What once must have towered over the coastal cliff, defending the coast, is now only a shattered ruin. Here the outline of its foundation can still be traced in the swirling sand. There is a large stone slab near the edge of the foundation. What appears to have been a wall that ran along the cliff's edge, now is little more than a ridge in the sand. Between the tower's fallen stones and the crashing waters below stands the remains of an obelisk. Crumbled bits of rock have gathered around its weathered base, and it seems to stand as reminder of times long ago forgotten. And the only thing that resembles a road, quickly tapers off to little more than a low spot in the sand.
Average temperature day in The Season of Metal with light cloud cover.
> l foundation
What once must have been a tall tower is now little more than a pile of stones with only a foundation remaining to show that there was ever anything here at all. The fondation is composed of three large concentric circles, with the outer reaching almost to the cliff edge. As you survey the foundation you notice two large stone slabs, a large square one in the last circular ring near the cliff and a smaller circular one outside the rings on the desert side of the ruins.
> l obelisk
The obelisk stands as a testament to all of the Gods of these vast realms. The occupants of the tower must have used this once mighty symbol to pray for protection and guidance.
> tie rope to ring
You will need to specify which ring.
> l stone
The square slab is simple stone but covered with runes that seem to pulse with power. There is an inscription on the stone. It reads...
Salmarik, Through the sons will the father be found.
- Try to ask Keylon about Salmarik
> l round rock
The round slab is simple stone shelf and could be reached if you had the proper tools and were a few feet closer.
> l square slab
Upon examination of the large square stone you find only that it has a few broken off metal bolts embedded in it and one very large severly bent metal ring in the exact center. Without more evidence you can determine little more about this slab other than that whatever sat upon it was destroyed violently, and perhaps may even sit at the bottom of the cliff even now.
- Look for something at the base of the cliff
> l circular slab
You carefully examine the round stone slab taking care to check for any writing. You find a large metal ring, set into the stone, and a fine almost invisible crevice that traces the full circumference of this slab. You get the idea that there might be something beneath it... but what?
> tie rope to large metal ring
What are you thinking? You don't know the first thing about good knots and such. The most likely thing you will do is get your fool neck broken. A fall from this height would assuredly be fatal.
// after training rope-knots to max: 25, you now get a new message:
> tie rope to large metal ring
There is no reason to tie your rope to that.
> tie rope to bent metal ring
You skillfully tie the rope to the bent metal ring. Now that you have tied the rope off, you give it a good heave and send it over the edge of the cliff
→ gives you cliff exit
→ If Medium or short coil of rope, then cliff exit →
You descend down the rope that was tied to the bent metal ring. The hemp strand burning your hands as you make your way slowly down the cliff...
...as you reach the bottom of the rope you realize that the rope you have used is not long enough. You make your way back up the rope reaching the top of the cliff near to collapsing from exhaustion.
→ If Long coil of rope, then the cliff exit takes you down to the bottom of the beach →
You descend down the rope that was tied to the bent metal ring. The hemp strand burning your hands as you make your way slowly down the cliff...
...as you near the bottom of the cliff, glad that you had a rope long enough, you feel a jerk in the rope and it suddenly goes slack in your hands...Oh well, it served its purpose.
> untie rope from bent metal ring
You easily untie the rope and stash it away.
> lift slab
You grunt and groan as you try to lift the stone slab... It is FAR to heavy for you to lift, you had best be careful you might hurt your back.
// tested at 25 strength, likely need some sort of pulley arrangement with the ring in the center of the slab
> untie rope from large metal ring
There is no rope tied to the metal ring.
- How to i "want" to tie rope to large metal ring?
Notes:
- Did not help to be dwarf (knot quest from newbie)
Eastern Beach
Climbing
In room with wreckage, it is possible to do
'climb cliff'
You will get to a room with following descrtiption
Isle of Belaern : Cliff
From the base of the cliff you can see only one possible path, there is a small ledge about 10
feet up the swiftly sloping foot of the cliff. You might just be able to scramble up to it and then
choose where to go from there.
Pleasantly warm day in The Season of Divinity with light cloud cover.
There are no obvious exits.
There will be various hints going up. you will get to the top eventually. The first two rooms are always 'climb cliff', then 'scramble ledge'
"A cluster of roots dangles from above, and a small outcrop of rock are all you have to to trust for support."
→ grab rock
"There seems to be lots of climb things to choose from here... a small crack, and an old rusty metal ring, thats imbeded into the cliff."
→ choose crack
"From here it looks like you can climb up a little higher by using one of those rocks, or maybe by pulling on one of those dangling roots."
→ grab rock
"you might try to climb back down a little ways to maybe get a better path."
→ climb down
"if you were somehow able to scramble over to it"
→ scramble shelf
"chain dangling down over the lip of the cliff now just"
→ pull chain
Notes
- I believe this is the entrance to Gwaithir
- reading A Book on Indrin's Beacon it could be there is a hole to a chamber here. As Gelion is also mentioned with Gwaithir. I believe that possibly his rope tying skills are related.
- It could be that we need to tie the medium or short rope, then try hole or similar before we climb back up
Gelion
Same room as above
