Story 18 Terror in the Marsh Told By Taniwha
~ Now see, I was in the dungeons. I hadn't done much, just killed a guard or ~
~~ two... but you know how those Stormfront people overreact to everything. ~~
~ Anyways, I was there, see... and the guards brought in this crazy guy. They ~
~ threw him in the cell right next to me, and went on about their business... ~
~~~ I swear, these guys must have a special grant from the "Keep Stormfront ~~
~ Beautiful" committee, the way they snatch up any undesirable and throw him ~
~~ in the dungeon, whether he's committed a crime or not. So I'm talking to ~~
~~~ this guy, as much as you can talk to any crazy guy... and he isn't too ~~~
~~ coherent, but from what I can figure... there's something pretty evil out ~
~ there in the marshes of Belaern. Whatever this guy saw, or heard, just threw ~
~~ him over the edge. If I was going to go see, I'd take a bunch of friends ~~
~~ with me and make sure we covered all the bases, skill-wise... Because you ~
~~ never know what kind of stuff you'll run into when you're faced with the ~~
~ kind of evil this lunatic was babbling about. I wonder if he's still in the ~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ dungeons? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Walkthrough
You need the scroll from Quest 242 - Attempted Revolt (Treyvan's scroll)
There is a flash of light and again you see before you Rakmar
Rakmar grins evilly.
Rakmar says: So you've killed the 'great' Lord Gershim.
Rakmar pauses for a moment.
Rakmar laughs malicously.
> l rakmar
Standing tall and firm, this former drow mage grimaces with the power of a thousand years; an eternity lost as his very soul was ripped from him. Awesome magic literally crawls over his body as he moves about, leaving an aurora filled with sparks igniting in the humid air. The moisture in the room seems drawn to him by not his will, but by his seeming mass of encompassing evil.
He is in excellent condition.
Wielding : a Scepter of Life.
Rakmar says: You have impressed upon me a lesson.
Rakmar ponders the situation.
Rakmar says: Oh don't think anything of it...
Rakmar says: Even I fail from time to time.
Rakmar says: That is how you get to greatness as I, learning.
Rakmar says: And you shall fail, for you have no understanding of what you have done to my plans.
Rakmar says: You see, I had plans for the worthless Gershim, but you have abruptly changed them.
Rakmar says: All for the quest for glory.
Rakmar says: Greed in other words is your demise.
Rakmar says: Just look at yourselves, lusting for treasure.
Rakmar laughs malicously.
Rakmar pauses for a moment.
Rakmar looks around the room.
Rakmar looks at you.
Rakmar laughs again.
Rakmar says: I suppose an explaination is in order.
Rakmar says: When Sal-Karr and his party landed some distance north of the volcano, I knew they would be interesting.
Rakmar pauses.
Rakmar says: Continuing already known history, they fought southward past all my irritants...
Rakmar says: The bastards stumbled upon one of the towers built by this cult.
Rakmar says: This of course was long before I wanted anything to do with wimpering idol worshippers.
Rakmar grins evilly.
Rakmar exclaims: The fools!
Rakmar says: Sal-Karr's men greatly outnumbered the existing cult's ranks...
Rakmar exclaims: Yet they've named this tower and applauded their own heroic efforts upon conquering it!
Rakmar laughs.
Rakmar 'The Tower of Attrition... yes, they lost many men... by 'The Tower of Attrition...
Rakmar vanishes in the blink of an eye.
