Quotes:

Talin Nightsbane asks: So you are here about the message, are you? Are you sure you are prepared for what I am going to ask?
Talin Nightsbane sighs heavily.
Talin Nightsbane says: This small town you are in is dying. Evil beasts from the sea, the Sahuagin, are invading the beaches and driving away the merchant ships. Soon, I fear, they might try to attack my town...and I am not sure we can hold them off.
Talin Nightsbane says: I want you to find their home. And I want you to destroy it, if you can. Find their city, and Kill their evil king. There are myths of a [sword] which will aid you in this quest . It has been so long since it has been used, i fail to remember where exactly I placed it. But if you help us I'll reward you.

Talin Nightsbane scratches his head.
Talin Nightsbane says: I put it somewhere around this place....
Talin Nightsbane sighs.
Talin Nightsbane says: Well I cant Remember, You'll have to find it. Age has gotten the best of me. My apologies...

Excellent, you found the sword! Perhaps now you are ready to hear about the [sahuagin].
Talin Nightsbane says: The Sahuagin...the Sea-Devils...they are an evil lot, through and through. You wouldn't believe the horrible things they have done. A third of my town here is already dead because of them.

Talin Nightsbane shakes his head.
Talin Nightsbane says: They come from beneath the waves. they breathe water, but can live on land for short periods. I swear, I have seen a lot of odd things come out of the Sahieren in my life, but none so despicable as these beasts. If you are to do battle with them, you must find a way to breathe as they do...for they come from a legendary city called [Sahuj].

Talin Nightsbane says: According to legend, Sahuj was a powerful island city off the coast not far from here. Its residents were rich and powerful, and arrogant also. They demanded divine  powers from a Goddess of the Occult, and angered her. She cursed them and their beautiful city, and it sank beneath the waves of the Sahieren. They were never heard from again, and no refugees from the city ever survived.

Talin Nightsbane says: But part of the Goddess's curse was that the people of Sahuj would never again be able to live above the Sahieren's surface. They would never know the sun, or any of the things of the surface world...they were trapped in the depths of the sea.

Talin Nightsbane says: That fool [sorcerer] hiding away in his tower may...Bah forget I mentioned him.

Talin Nightsbane exclaims: Bah!
Talin Nightsbane exclaims: That sorcerer is nothing but trouble. If we had listened to him, we would have lost our whole town!

Baazaruth the Sorcerer exclaims: The Sahuagin...so, you want to know about the Sea-Devils....I hope that fool Talin didn't send you. Perhaps if he had listened to me, my town would have been saved!

Baazaruth the Sorcerer shakes his head.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: Pardon me for my lack of manners. Come, my servants will prepare us a feast while I relate the sad history of the people of Sahuj.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: Where to begin...
Baazaruth the Sorcerer ponders the situation.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: Sahuj was once a powerful island city-state, which held dominion over many of the other islands in the region. They were a proud race, known then as Sahuagins. For nearly a millenium, they ruled the seas.

Several servants enter, each laden with trays of delicious smelling appetizers.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer exclaims: I highly recommend the mussels. They are superb!
The sorcerer's tale is interrupted while you wolf down the first course.

While the servants clear the dishes, the sorcerer continues with his tale.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: After years of prosperity and undisputed naval domination, the golden era came to an end. Sparked by the forces of evil, the Race Wars erupted, and with them, chaos siezed the realms.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer sighs.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: The king of Sahuj, was swayed by some evil diety, and became cruel and twisted. His people followed his lead, and their mighty navies began to ravage the coastline.

The doors slide open again, and the servants return even more heavily laden with the main course.

A heaping platter of roasted venison, garnished with rare spices from the far reaches of the realms, is accompanied with delicious fresh-baked bread and some type of vegetable which you can not quite identify.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: I'll pause so we can savor this meal.

You finally shove your plate away, unable to consume more of the delicious feast. You are forced to loosen your belt to make room for the vast quantity of food.

The sorcerer notices that you have finished, and resumes his tale.
Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: Back to my history lecture.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer grins.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: Among the races destroyed by the Sahuagin were the sea elves, sea minotaurs, and most of the cyclops. The last were dear to a powerful diety of good, known in this plane only as 'The Goddess'. It is she who was responsible for the punishment and ensuing destruction of Sahuj.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: A great cataclysm was cast down upon the island.  Its navies were destroyed, the capital left in ruins, and the island sank deep beneath the sea.
The people of Sahuj were transformed into the amphibious monstrosities which today threaten the coast of the Sword Sea once again.
Baazaruth the Sorcerer sighs.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: If you want to stop the Sahuagin menace, your best bet would be to try to destroy the evil king, who still lives thanks to the Goddess's curse.  According to a Sahuagin I interrogated, he still resides in the remnants of his palace, which now lies on the sea floor.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer ponders the situation.

While the wizard ponders the problem, a servant quietly circulates refilling wine glasses. You put your glass to your lips and savor the red wine...hmmm, Reymor '473 you believe.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: I do not know of a way to breathe underwater, and such an enchantment you will need if you wish to seek out the king.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: However, I recently was contacted by a powerful mage, called Mistress Charissa. Through her magic, she explained her plight. Apparently, one of the islands allied with Sahuj was spared thanks to its patron diety, Helm. The island, known as Warden's Isle, is no longer in our world, but resides in its own small pocket of existence.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: The only link between this island and our world is a magical mist which shrouds the island. This mist appears where the island once was on the seas. If you sail into the mist you may be transported to this other world, or you may be destroyed. I am not really sure.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer shrugs.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: Perhaps their Village Priest may be able to guide you on your quest.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer says: To find the mist, you must sail due southwest from our fair town. Ancient Sahuj once lay southwest of Warden's Isle. Sailors tell me that a perpetual whirlpool spins there now. Perhaps answers lie within the mystery of the whirlpool.

The servants clean up the final dishes, and the wizard rises to bid you farewell.

Baazaruth the Sorcerer exclaims: Good luck on your quest, and remember all I have told you!
Baazaruth claps his hands and you find yourself outside Belgar's Haven.

Harold the Village Priest says: Praise to the Goddess, Mother of the islands. She spared our beautiful island when our evil neighbors plotted against the natural order of things. The evil island city of [Sahuj] was sunken into the sea, and the evil people were turned into sahuagin, a race of amphibeous underwater dwellers.

Harold the Village Priest exclaims: Although the heavens vowed to extinguish all trace of Sahuj from the realms, our Goddess saved us. Better that we be here, in this different world, than several leagues under the sea, living our existances as fishmen!

Harold the Village Priest says: Ah, Sahuj, the island-city of our former overlords. Cursed was the day we associated with those evil folk. The Goddess cast they're entire island under the sea. The evil king still lives, now transformed into a sahuagin like the rest of his people. It was he who led the evil people onto the path of evil.

Harold the Village Priest ponders the situation.

Harold the Village Priest exclaims: Hmm, my Goddess has led me to believe that if some brave heroes were to seek out this evil king and destroy him, she would look upon them with great favor. I can not tell you how to get to that city, but I once had a device which allowed our kind to breathe underwater as if we were fish!!! Harold the Village Priest says: However, I entrusted this artifact with a [dragon] acquaintance of mine.

Harold the Village Priest says: The dragon's name is Elkazzar. He is a mighty green beast who lives hidden in the forest. Don't tell the villagers, but it is he who destroyed their mill. He woke up from a three hundered year slumber to find humans right outside his lair. Seek him out in his lair, deep in the underbrush near the mill. Harold the Village Priest grins.

Harold the Village Priest says: He doesn't really like people much, but if you mention my name he MIGHT not kill you right off.

Harold the Village Priest chuckles politely.

Harold the Village Priest says: He owes me a [favor], so if you mention that you need help breathing underwater, he should give you some assistance. Good luck, and may the blessings of the Goddess go with you.

Rudy Gamonni says: This used to be a prosperous little town before the incident. My trading company netted me tremendous profits. I managed the old [mill] and loved my job.

Rudy Gamonni says: Ah yes, the old mill. It lies in the northen forest. It once belonged to me, a rather prosperous business I might add. Then one night, the building was destroyed, I can't tell you how. No one knows. The area around it was devastated as well, and all the plants and trees were poisoned.

Rudy Gamonni sighs.

Rudy Gamonni says: The superstitious villagers refused to return to the site, believing it cursed. No one has ventured that way in years, except maybe the crazy old [priest].

Rudy Gamonni says: Harold? That old loony. He still rattles on about his god saving us all. More like cast us all in this pit of hell he did.

Rudy Gamonni laughs demonically.

Rudy Gamonni says: Last time I was talking to him, he claimed that if it wasn't for his god, we would be under the sea right now, turned into fishpeople or something, Sahuagin or something.

Rudy Gamonni sighs heavily.

Rudy Gamonni says: All I know, is that business has been lousy since our island vanished from the realms into the dismal place we now call home.

Rudy Gamonni says: If you need to find that crazy priest, he is usually in his old church at the western end of the village, nothing compared to the [castle] in the north.

Rudy Gamonni says: That would be the Warden's Castle. If town gossip is correct, supposedly the castle wards against some ancient foe. I just think it wards against sea raiders. The lord of the castle is [Kelmar] the Warden. I hear that the castle is not to open to strangers these days.

Rudy Gamonni says: Kelmar was once a powerful noble in Sahuj, our mother island. He was awarded this island as part of his fief.  Supposedly he was a favorite of some god, and helped drive some great evil from the land. He was appointed the guardian of this evil, if you believe the gossip of fishwives.

Rudy Gamonni yawns tiredly.

Rudy Gamonni says: Ever since we vanished from the sword sea, he has been holed up in his [castle], and as far as I know he hasn't seen anybody. His guards say they will only allow people to enter if they show proof that the 'enemey' has returned. Whatever that means.

Large Green Dragon exclaims: So that annoying priest Harold sent you. Harumph!

Large Green Dragon growls menacingly.

Large Green Dragon sighs.

Large Green Dragon asks: Well, I guess I do owe him a couple of favors. Let me guess, it is about [Sahuj] the sunken city?

Large Green Dragon exclaims: So you seek out Sahuj do you? Well you are going to have to go underwater to get there!

Large Green Dragon laughs demonically.

Large Green Dragon says: Well, to get to the caves leading to the city, sail your boat southwest of the mists, until you hit the whirl pool. Enter the pool if you dare, but I hope you can breathe like the fishes, or it will spell your doom!

Large Green Dragon says: We green dragons are hardly considered masters of [sea magic].

Large Green Dragon says: No, sea magic is not my specialty

Large Green Dragon ponders the situation.

Large Green Dragon says: According to dragon lore, sea magic is the specialty of the Chiang-Ku dragons, and I have not seen one of those for centuries. I heard that there was one on an island far to the north, but whether my draconic brethen still lives there, or is still living, is beyond my knowledge

Large Green Dragon exclaims: If you can find such a dragon, he will be able to empower you with better protection for traversing the undersea. Although it will most likely cost you dearly!

Talin Nightsbane says: So you're the one who killed the evil sahuagin emperor...
Talin Nightsbane says: Thanks a lot. You are welcome to choose from my trophies in the room to the south.
